Hi just wanted to share this photo, of glass filled ruby, I was on a gem tour in Thailand and we went to a place near Chanthaburi where they treated the rough ruby. this photo shows the person snipping some of the ruby apart after it had been taken out of the furnace and some were stuck together with the glass compound. after this it was tumbled to get any sharp edges off the ruby and then sold to wholesale gem/jewellery dealers. this was just one lot over a couple of days
and they do this constantly so it gives an idea of how much is going on the market
Thanks for showing. In a world where all feel it to be their democratic right to wear rubies, this in an inevitable result. It breaks my heart to see money being spent on these glass composites when, for those on a budget, Verneuil process ruby is an altogether better looking and more stable product.
