Sammantha Maclachlan FIRV, MJVA, FGA, DGA, GP, AJP, PJDIP, CPAA is an independent jewellery and watch valuer, gemmologist and educator with more than 22 years’ experience in the jewellery industry.
Based in Glasgow, Sammantha specialises in the valuation of fine and antique jewellery, watches, diamonds and coloured gemstones. She is a Fellow and current Chair of the National Association of Jewellers’ Institute of Registered Valuers, as well as the recipient of the 2026 David Wilkins Award for Valuer of the Year.
A passionate advocate for continuing professional development, Sammantha tutors, mentors and regularly delivers talks and practical workshops for gemmological and valuation organisations in the UK and internationally. She has a particular interest in coloured gemstones, photomicrography and the importance of combining traditional observational skills with current gemmological knowledge and technology.
Her photomicrography has received international recognition, and her work regularly appears in the Roskin Gem News Report. Through her teaching and industry involvement, Sammantha aims to make gemmology accessible, engaging and directly relevant to those working within the jewellery profession.
